Dragons are typically very large lizard- or serpent like creatures with huge wings, claws and a tail. Some breath fire, some poison, and still others breath is so cold it can freeze and adversary it their tracks. Some dragons have magical powers, and some act as guardians of treasures.

There are many different varieties described in bestiaries of old and more recently additional types have been dreamt up for use in fantasy novels. Among the many varieties are, black, red, green, white, etc., some of which are good, some evil, and others somewhere in between. Since each series of novels are depicted in different worlds, by different authors, there are even variations in them from one series to the other.
